ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
The Seymour Smith Elementary School is located in Pine Plains, New York, in northern Dutchess County. It was built in 1932 and currently houses grades K – 5 for the Pine Plains Central School District. The school currently has a student enrollment of approximately 500 pupils.

Important Safety Information

With the cold weather upon us, we want to remind you of some safety guidelines…

When waiting for the school bus in the morning, please make sure that your children do not play in snow banks near the road/bus stop. Bus drivers have informed the school that some students are playing dangerously close to the road.

Students should wear warm clothes to school! Winter weather calls for hats, gloves, warm coats and snow boots. When students are not appropriately dressed, we do not let them outside for recess.

Our weather guidelines are as follows:

Note: all temperatures are wind chill adjusted.

If it feels like the temperature is below 32 degrees. Gloves and hat/hood must be worn.

If it feels like the temperature is below 20 degrees

Gloves/hat/hood/boots must be worn. Recess will be shortened or indoors.

If it feels like the temperature is below 10 degrees Recess will be indoors.
