"The object of education is to prepare
the young to educate themselves throughout their lives"
―Robert Maynard Hutchins

Welcome to the Middle School Web Site
August 2005
Our school website continues to grow. Last year, many new descriptions of
programs and services were added. Pictures will be updated as we move
through this school year. New programs have been added and others changed
at the middle school to provide students greater opportunities for
learning.
Technology is being expanded at the middle school with new classes at the
sixth and eighth grade levels. The former Home and Career Skills class has
been changed to a new program called Choosing Healthy Options In
Character, Employment & School or simply C.H.O.I.C.E.S. The program has
been shifted to ten weeks at the sixth grade and twenty weeks at the
seventh grade. This new program will address the State's learning
standards in Career Development and Occupational Studies along with Family
and Consumer Science.
A middle school Student Council was formed last year and will be ready to
continue at the start of this school year. Sixth grade elections will be
held in October allowing for students from both elementary schools to get
to know each other before they elect officers for their class. A school
newspaper and literary magazine were also started last year with amazing
success from our students involved. The magazine included poetry, short
stories and artwork from staff and students. Intramurals started last year
for the first time during the winter season and will hopefully continue
this year.
During this past school year and over the summer, many teachers and
administrators throughout the district have been involved in professional
development conferences and workshops. The Board of Education and new
superintendent placed a high priority on supporting this critical area of
education. We are looking forward to using this new information and skills
to better serve the students of our district in the coming years. Training
our educators to be their very best is one of the strongest indicators for
student success based upon considerable research available today.
We are proud of our schools and I personally welcome your comments and
suggestions to better our schools. Please feel free to contact me by phone
or email as listed on our web page.
Respectfully,
Robert Hess
